Experts say that the world's best olive oil is produced in Crete, and there especially in the region of Lasithi in the east part of the island. The tradition of olive cultivation and oil extraction known since thousands of years in this area is the basis for the high quality of this 'liquid gold' of Crete. The very low acidity of only 0,3% is due to the variety of olives called 'Koroneíki' which you can find only in Crete and which are very mild themselves. The cold-extraction until max. 27°C is another reason for high quality oil; it is extracted from crushed olive paste only by the mechanical way of centrifugation.

Kalamafka is a small village in the Cretan mountains in which the olive trees have been cultivated since centuries. The family Nikolarakis produces a top quality olive oil which we offered last year in our shop for the first time.
Kreta-Agora carries Elasion olive oil with 0,3% acidity in all usual sizes.
